GW's online programs accept Missouri applicants, and GW's disclosures say its NP and midwifery curricula meet Missouri's requirements. What shapes your clinicals is Missouri itself: NPs there practice under a lifelong physician arrangement, the state's preceptor tax credit leaves nursing out, and the St. Louis metro straddles a compact line.

GW programs for a Missouri address
Missouri has no line on GW's State Authorizations page, so the only closed door is the Acute Care residency rule.

No Missouri approval step on record
Missouri's nursing board publishes nothing that makes a school from elsewhere ask permission, or even send word, before its students begin clinical work in the state. That is our reading of the rules; the Board itself was not asked. Its education chapter, 20 CSR 2200-2, is written for programs Missouri recognizes, and the practice act's student clause, section 335.081(6)(a), shields supervised students of "approved schools of professional nursing" from needing a Missouri license while staying silent about schools headquartered in other states.
None of that changes much for you. You already hold an RN license, and GW clears a rotation only when your license covers that state. The real gate for a Missouri site is GW's program director review and a signed affiliation agreement with the site.
Collaborative practice and who precepts in Missouri
AANP files Missouri under restricted practice. A Missouri NP never outgrows the collaborative practice arrangement: a physician partner stays attached for the whole career, along with ratio caps, chart-review duties and controlled-substance limits. None of that prevents an NP from teaching you, and the collaborating physician is a second route: GW's preceptor requirements accept MDs and DOs with two years in practice.
Missouri's preceptor tax credit, found at RSMo 135.690, rewards physicians and PAs for unpaid teaching of the state's own medical and PA students. It has no place for nurse practitioners or nursing students, so taking a GW student earns a Missouri preceptor nothing from it.
Students hunt in the St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield and Columbia metros. CoxHealth, MU Health Care and BJC HealthCare rank among the major systems, as do SSM Health and Mercy.
Your license across two state lines
The compact became Missouri law on July 20, 2017, and went live on January 19, 2018. A Missouri resident's multistate license therefore reaches Kansas, the other half of the Kansas City metro. Load it into Complio for each state you plan to train in, and see the RN license guide for GW's rule.
St. Louis works differently. About 670,000 people in that metro live on the Illinois side, and Illinois never joined the compact, so any Illinois site needs its own Illinois RN license. The Illinois and Kansas guides cover both borders.
A Missouri multistate license covers Kansas City, Kansas, but not a hospital across the river in Illinois.

Questions GW students ask
Does a Missouri multistate license cover GW clinicals in Kansas?
Yes, when Missouri is your primary state of residence. Kansas also belongs to the compact, so your Missouri multistate license carries a privilege to practice there. GW's own licensing advice to DC-area students leans on multistate licenses in the same way, and your Kansas preceptor still goes through GW's usual review.
Can I start GW clinicals in Missouri over the summer?
If your plan of study puts a clinical course in summer, yes. GW's website lists February 1 as the summer request date, roughly four months ahead, while the 2026 CORE workshop posts its own priority dates for fall and spring. Hours must fall inside semester dates and begin only after clearance. See first clinical semester.
My Missouri hospital has its own onboarding. How does that fit GW's process?
It runs alongside Complio. GW's review order ends with site onboarding before the clearance notice, and GW's 2021 clinical placement guide counts site and state requirements among the four things clearance needs. Finish the hospital's steps on its timeline so they don't hold up a start date GW has already approved.
Will GW help me find a Missouri preceptor?
GW's rule puts the search on you, except in the Acute Care options, and its FAQ promises support to students who come up empty.
