GW clinical placement request deadlines, and which date governs yours
GW has published more than one set of clinical request dates. The Compliance and Clinical page lists May 1 for fall, October 1 for spring and February 1 for summer, while GW's 2026 CORE workshop gives priority dates of May 15, 2026 for fall 2026 and October 8, 2026 for spring 2027. The date that binds your term is the one in CORE's Document Library, and the date that matters most, when preceptors fill up, comes far earlier.

GW's sources were written at different times for different readers, and they do not line up. Here is each one with where it comes from.

Read the table as a range rather than a menu. The earliest date that applies to your term is the safe target.
Which date to follow
The website's May 1, October 1 and February 1 pattern is GW's standing rule, about four months ahead of each term. The 2026 workshop dates are the priority dates set for the current cycle, and they land a little later: May 15 in place of May 1, October 8 in place of October 1.
The same workshop says deadlines are posted in CORE's Document Library, so the library settles the question for your term. If it and the website still seem to disagree, ask the Clinical Placement Team which one governs your request, and aim for the earlier date regardless. Filing early has no downside, and filing late can cost a term.
Summer is the gap. The 2026 workshop names no summer 2027 priority date, so check the Document Library and work to the website's February 1 until CORE says otherwise.
The 2021 guide's window and its six-month floor
GW's 2021 clinical placement guide, still sitting on GW's Box account though its pages stopped pointing to it, asked students to submit four to six months before the term. It also set a floor: requests could not be processed earlier than six months before a student's first clinical course in summer or fall. Current rules may differ, but the logic still helps with planning.
The floor explains why an early start means early searching rather than early filing. You can line up a preceptor a year out, stay in touch, and file once the processing window opens. The same guide listed compliance due dates of early May, early August and early January, and GW's current page warns against purchasing Complio earlier than four months ahead of your clinical start. Inside the term: a site by the end of week 2
GW's 2026 workshop sets two in-term markers. Clearance notifications are scheduled for the week before classes, and students "MUST have a site by the end of week 2" of the term. The priority date is the route to clearing on time; week 2 is the outer edge.
Even week 2 is late in practice. Hours count only after clearance and must be completed inside the semester dates, so every week lost at the start of a 240-hour course such as NURS 6231 is a week of shifts to squeeze in elsewhere. And if the midpoint of the term arrives with no site, GW's 2021 guide calls for a conversation with your Clinical Experience Faculty and program director about whether the course can still be completed that term.

Working backward from your first clinical day
Put GW's own timing markers in order and a realistic plan appears. Every point below comes from a GW source, and your Document Library dates override the general ones.

What a late request costs
GW is plain about late filing. Its 2021 guide says a late request "may result in a delay in clearance," and students who miss the request deadline are subject to a delayed clinical start.
Because GW's clinical courses run in sequence, such as NURS 6230, then NURS 6231, then NURS 6232 in the FNP track, a late start in one course can push the next one and, with it, your graduation term. Students changing specialty meet the same dates; the Bulletin says all program- or track-specific clinical placement deadlines apply.

The request deadline is not the search deadline. Preceptors fill their calendars long before GW's forms are due.

What is GW's clinical placement deadline for summer?
GW's website gives February 1 for summer rotations, the same date its 2021 clinical placement guide used. The 2026 CORE workshop lists priority dates only for fall 2026 and spring 2027, so check CORE's Document Library for the current summer date and treat February 1 as your target until it says otherwise.
Can I submit my request a year early?
You can find and confirm a preceptor a year early, and GW encourages it. Filing is different: GW's 2021 guide said requests were not processed earlier than six months before a first summer or fall clinical course. Current rules may differ, so check with the Clinical Placement Team before filing far in advance.
Is October 8, 2026 a hard cutoff for spring 2027?
GW's 2026 workshop calls it a priority date. GW's materials do not describe later requests as refused, but they say late requests may delay clearance and a missed deadline can delay your clinical start. Treat it as the date to beat, and confirm the final word with the Clinical Placement Team.
Do post-master's certificate students face earlier deadlines?
They follow the same term dates, but their clock starts sooner. GW says the majority of post-master's certificate students begin clinicals in semester one, and its 2021 guide told them to start searching immediately upon acceptance. That can leave only a few months between admission and the request date. See first clinical semester.
Is the deadline per term or per course?
Per term, and each rotation needs its own request. If you have two preceptors in one course, both Site Prospector submissions belong in CORE by your term's date, since a second preceptor filed late meets the same delay risk as a late first one.
