What to send

Five details are enough for your placement advisor to start, and the form has a place for each.

Program: choose your GW track from the list, or Not sure yet if you are between options
Next clinical course: the course number from your plan of study, such as NURS 6230, NURS 6244 or NURS 6258, in the message box
Term: pick the closest option under clinical start, and name the semester in your message
City and state: where you want to do your hours, which is usually where you live
Hours still needed: especially useful if you are partway through a course and logging in CORE

Two extras help a great deal: the states where you hold an RN license, since GW requires one in every state where you rotate, and any practice you have already approached, so your advisor can skip it.

Getting the most from the message box

The message box is where the details that shape a search belong. Tell us if a site fell through, if your program director asked for a different setting, or if your course needs a particular mix, such as the OB/GYN and pediatric hours GW's 2021 clinical placement guide describes for the second FNP course, or the long-term care hours in the third AGPCNP course.

Acute Care students can note the part of DC, Maryland or Northern Virginia that suits them, since GW keeps those rotations inside that area. Leadership students can say which organization hosted NURS 6258, because NURS 6259 needs a different preceptor and site. The more we know, the sharper the first round of calls.

If your term is close or you are mid-rotation

Say so at the top of your message and choose the matching clinical start option, such as within 8 weeks or already started. Urgent cases are handled differently, with more practices contacted at once, and the urgent placement page explains how that works.

Preceptors and questions for GW

Clinicians who would like to precept a GW student can use this same form: choose I'm a preceptor under Program and tell us your specialty, setting and city. The preceptor page explains what the role involves.

Some questions belong to GW alone: your clearance status, your Complio review, CORE access or an agreement already in progress. Questions GW students ask

How soon will I hear back after sending the form?

A placement advisor replies as soon as your details have been reviewed, by email, call or text, using the contact details you gave. If your term is close, say so at the top of your message and choose the matching clinical start option so your request is read with that urgency in mind.

What if I do not know my clinical course number yet?

Choose your program and describe where you are in your plan of study, for example that you are taking NURS 6222 this term. Your advisor can work out which clinical course comes next and when it starts, then confirm the details with you before any search begins.

Is it too early to contact you before NURS 6222?

No. GW notes that many preceptors and sites book more than a year ahead, so reaching out while you are still in didactic courses gives the search the most room. Your advisor can plan the rotation now and time the preceptor paperwork to GW's request dates for your term.

Can I use WhatsApp or text instead of the form?

Yes. The WhatsApp and text buttons on every page reach the same placement desk, and you can send your program, course, term, city and hours there. The form is handy when you want everything in one place, and the chat works well for quick questions.

Who sees the details I send?

The placement desk sees them, along with the providers that run our forms, chat and messaging, and a prospective preceptor or site receives only what they need to consider you. The privacy policy linked in the form explains what we collect and how to ask us to delete it.
