The 2025 DNP block that came and went

A Wayback Machine capture of GW's State Authorizations page from August 9, 2025 carried a Maryland entry: GW was unable to accept Maryland applicants for the DNP Adult-Gerontology Primary Care, DNP Family and DNP Psychiatric Mental Health options. The entry is missing from the December 15, 2025 capture and from every capture since, and it did not reach the MSN versions of those tracks.

No GW explanation for either the block or its removal was found, and GW's page cautions that state rules can shift at any time. Clinicals in Maryland: license and rules

The compact took effect in Maryland on January 19, 2018, and Maryland's regulations allow a nurse holding a multistate privilege to practice there under Maryland law. If Maryland is your home state and your license is multistate, it covers Maryland and Virginia sites, while any site in the District needs a separate DC license. Maryland law even exempts graduate APRN students in accredited programs from licensure for the practice their program requires, but GW's clearance applies its own test regardless: an RN license valid in the site's state.

Research found no Maryland requirement for schools based elsewhere to obtain Board approval before their students train in the state, so GW's Maryland rotations turn on the affiliation agreement with each site. The preceptor tax credit, track by track

Maryland's NP preceptor tax credit (Tax-General § 10-739) rewards NPs and physicians who precept NP students without pay. A preceptor needs at least three rotations of 90 hours or more of community-based training in a taxable year, at a practice in a health professional shortage area, a medically underserved area or a rural area. The credit is set per rotation, capped per preceptor and statewide, and runs until June 30, 2030.

The statute asks only that the student's program be recognized by the Board of Nursing, with no in-state requirement, and the Maryland Department of Health points out-of-state NP programs to the Board's list. Here is how that list lines up with GW's tracks:

The list is ten years old, and whether the Board has approved GW's other tracks since is not public. The health department decides each claim, so mention the credit to a preceptor as a possibility, never a promise.
