GW Nursing online from Indiana
An Indiana address qualifies you for GW Nursing's online programs, with the Acute Care NP options the one exception, and Indiana's nursing board has no review role over graduate programs from anywhere. The harder part of an Indiana plan is geography: two slices of the state belong to the Chicago and Louisville metros, and Illinois sits outside the Nurse Licensure Compact.

GW programs an Indiana address can join
Indiana is missing from every restriction on GW's State Authorizations page, and GW's licensure disclosures place it among the states whose requirements the NP, certificate and midwifery programs meet. GW's page adds that state rules shift with each board, so ask GW admissions to confirm your track.

Indiana's board and out-of-state graduate programs
Indiana's board, housed within the state Professional Licensing Agency, confines its accreditation work to Indiana schools that train new RNs and LPNs. It states that RN-BSN and graduate nursing education fall outside what it reviews, and 848 IAC 1-2-4, the rule defining eligible programs, deals with pre-licensure RN and PN schools alone. For an MSN or DNP based elsewhere, no Board step surfaced.
That puts GW's process at the center: a contract between GW Nursing and your site, program director approval of the preceptor, and clearance from the Clinical Placement Team. The affiliation agreement guide explains why agreements can take weeks to months.
Collaborative agreements and Indiana preceptors
Indiana counts as reduced practice on AANP's map. Indiana NPs work under a state-regulated collaboration with a physician, which must reach at least one part of what they do. That arrangement is routine for the NPs you will ask, and GW's 2021 clinical placement guide welcomes NP, MD, DO and CNM preceptors with two years in advanced practice. Students around Indianapolis-Carmel-Greenwood, the largest metro, often try IU Health, Ascension St. Vincent or Community Health Network first. Parkview Health and Franciscan Health widen the map, and Fort Wayne is the next metro down. Public records show no Indiana tax credit for preceptors, so GW's Himmelfarb library access and guest-lecture invitation are the perks to mention.
Licenses at the Chicago and Louisville edges
Indiana's multistate licenses took effect on July 1, 2020, later than many compact members. That license satisfies GW's rule for any Indiana site and for sites in other member states, but not everywhere a border student might look:
- Northwest Indiana. Close to three-quarters of a million Indiana residents are counted in the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metro. Illinois has no compact membership, so your multistate privilege ends where Illinois begins, and a Chicago site means getting an Illinois RN license. Separately, Illinois asks visiting schools that want clinical placements there to submit documents for approval lasting two years. Whether that covers graduate programs is unsettled, and no public record shows GW holding it.
- Southern Indiana. Roughly 281,000 Indiana residents sit inside the Louisville/Jefferson County metro. Kentucky is a compact state, so your Indiana multistate license reaches a Louisville site, but Kentucky's board expects preceptors there to hold Kentucky APRN licensure. See the Kentucky guide.

Does Indiana's Board of Nursing have to approve GW before clinicals?
No Board approval applies. Indiana's board accredits the state's own pre-licensure RN and LPN schools and says RN-BSN and graduate education are outside its review. The work sits with GW instead: a site contract, a program director review of your preceptor, and clearance from the Clinical Placement Team.
I live in northwest Indiana. Can I use a Chicago clinic for GW clinicals?
Only with an Illinois RN license. Illinois is outside the Nurse Licensure Compact, and GW wants your RN license to cover each state you train in. Illinois also runs a two-year approval process for visiting schools, and it's unsettled whether graduate programs fall under it, so ask GW's Clinical Placement Team before choosing a Chicago site.
Does my Indiana multistate license work at a Louisville hospital?
For your RN license, yes: Kentucky and Indiana are both compact members. The catch is your preceptor, who under Kentucky Board of Nursing rules needs a Kentucky APRN license to precept an online APRN student in Kentucky. GW also needs an agreement with the Kentucky site.
Is the Acute Care NP track possible from Indianapolis?
Not from an Indiana home. GW admits AGACNP students who live in DC, Maryland or Virginia and keeps their clinicals in DC, Maryland or Northern Virginia. Indiana residents can pick the FNP, AGPCNP or PMHNP tracks, whose rotations happen near where they live.
